What is Florida Water…Aqua Florida.  I know that mine is authentically made, from distilled floral waters, essential oils, and a tablespoon of my bathtub gin.  The question is “what is Florida Water used for?”  The answer is “instead of sweating.”  When you ask, “what does that mean?” The answer is “I just told you…keeps you cool when you’re hot, keeps the good spirits happy, and keeps the bad spirits away.”  Florida Water is made by all of the gulf coast and Caribbean communities…Creoles, Cajun, Gullah, Geechee, Vodou,  Santeria, Shango, Southrons, Floridanos…from the Gulla coast, the Gulf, the Bayou, the Isles.  Fountain of Youth, Ponce de Leon, Land of the Flowers…Aqua  Florida.  The recipe is traditionally made by seeping citrus, herbs and spices in neutral spirits (moonshine!).  I made mine using my distilled floral and herbal waters.  The recipe has a herbs…rosemary, always sage (for the good juju), usually mint…always has citrus…lemon, lime or orange…always the warm spices…cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice…and a fragrant tropical flower. I add my tablespoon of homemade bathtub gin to honor the moonshiners.   Aqua Florida is used as a body spray in the heat, a room spray or splash in the water to rinse out the room when cleaning, and bring in the good spirits.   That’s all I can figure out from the many southern folk who asked me to make it.  I know it’s authentic…I make it correctly…always prayerfully with the permission of God and each ingredient…I’m not much of a spiritual practitioner, I’m an old Baptist, but I make it assuming you might be.  I just don’t know what to do with it…that’s up to you…you tell me.  Aqua Florida…Florida Water…it’s powerful and gentle and fragrant, for people in good spirits.
